Speaker Highlight: Jad Daley, American Forests
Let’s Deliver Tree Equity for Health Equity
The health-giving benefits of trees have never been more important given the health threats posed by climate change, beginning with extreme heat. But these health benefits are not equitably available because a map of trees in virtually every city is also like a map of race and income that often leaves those already facing higher health burdens without the benefit of trees. American Forests has been leading a national effort to rally new “Tree Equity” efforts in cities across America, planting, stewarding and protecting trees in the neighborhoods where they are most lacking. This includes its free Tree Equity Score and advocacy leadership in securing $1.5 billion in the Inflation Reduction Act for new grant opportunities through the U.S. Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry Program. In this keynote, American Forests will synthesize leading research that provides the health and climate-driven case for Tree Equity in Missouri’s cities and then discuss best practices and new resources that Conference participants can access to help advance this work.
